Can you find me a job?
We teach YOU the skills to find work. The Landell 3-week Strategic Job Search Program (SJS) is an intensive group program with a strong focus on tapping into the hidden job market. The SJS program is offered at the Landell Burnaby area site and the Cloverdale site. Success in finding work is in direct proportion to job hunting effort as well as the willingness to try new techniques. These are skills that can be used not only for job seeking, but for life.

What is a Case Manager?
This is an employment professional who will assess your skills and career goals and offer one-to-one support in developing a plan to reach your employment goals. This is a necessary first step as you will need a referral to start either our Career Planning or Strategic Job Search Programs. Landell does not have a Case Manager on staff.

How do I find a Case Manager?
Case Managers are found at Employment Resource Centres (ERCs). The easiest way to locate a Case Manager is to use this website: http://www.youremploymentservices.ca/
On the left hand side of the Home page click on: "Where do I start?" and you will see an alphabetical listing of Employment Resource Centres divided into geographical areas. Simply call them to make an appointment.

How do I register for one of your programs?
Once you have an Action Plan from a Case Manager please phone Landell and Associates. One of the Facilitators will ask you questions and pre-register you for the next group session.
- For the Landell Career Planning Program (CPP), once eligibility and suitability for you are established, you will be asked to come in to fill out required paperwork prior to the session.
- For the Burnaby area Strategic Job Search (SJS), once eligibility and suitability for the program is established you will be invited to the Program Introduction which is a full day session. For the Cloverdale SJS you may come in for an individual registration meeting, or there may be group Program Introduction.
- For the Cloverdale Workshops phone the Landell Cloverdale office to book into the Workshop of your choice.

Will these programs interfere with my job search? Will attending affect my Employment Insurance Claim?
They will optimize your job search and show you different techniques that make you stand out from the rest of the job seekers. You are actively looking for work while you attend the SJS program.
If you are receiving EI benefits, when reporting your claim, be sure to report that you are doing an active job search. These are not training program.

What is the difference between your program and others?
- The Landell CPP program is only seven days in length compared to the normal three-week long career exploration model. It is fast paced and utilizes up-to-date software for self-assessment. The hours are from 9 to 3:30 with an hour for lunch. It is an intensive program.
- The Landell SJS Program at the Burnaby site is 3 weeks in length, 9 am to 3 pm each business day, and is intensive in nature. There is a 45 minute lunch break. There is a strong focus on the hidden job market, so starting in Week 2, it is expected that clients are willing to make 10 phone calls a day to potential employers. All strategies in the program are introduced step-by-step with practice time built in. It is truly the "learn by doing" approach.
- The Landell SJS Program in Cloverdale is also three weeks, but with options to enter the program in Week One or Three, and take just one or two of the "Core Cluster" Weeks. It runs from 9 to 3:30 with one hour for lunch. The Cloverdale SJS Workshops normally run from 9 to 12.

I work part time. Can I come to your program?
To be eligible you must work 20 hours or less per week and be available 9 am to 3 or 3:30 pm Monday through Friday. The Cloverdale Workshops offer more flexibility for people working less than 20 hours a week.

What kind of assessment do you offer in your Career Planning Program?
During the program you gain more tools to be able to do career planning and make informed decisions. Based on what you have entered into the software programs regarding your interests, transferable skills, values, work requirements / preferences and aptitudes, certain career options are suggested on print-outs. You also generate options through doing psychological assessment (MBTI®), labour market research and arranging for informational meetings with people in occupations / fields of interest, and through group brainstorming sessions. In addition you meet twice in one-to-one sessions with a facilitator to discuss the options you have come up with, where you want to focus, and steps you have outlined on your Career Research Plan.

How long will it take me to find a job?
This depends on many factors including the specific industry and level of job, a person's communication skills and energy put into the job search. If a person uses all the job search strategies taught in the program, 6-8 hours a day, the chances are high of you finding work. Some participants find work while they are in the program, some the week after, and some may take up to three months or more. Looking for work is a full-time job and our facilitators provide advice and encouragement.

How many people are in the class and will I have some one on one time with the facilitators?
In the CPP program, there are typically 12 to 14 people in each group. One-on-one meetings with CPP facilitators are scheduled on two of the seven program days.
With the SJS sessions, there are from 15 to 18 participants. One-to-one time is available during "self-directed" segments where facilitators are available to provide feedback on resumes, cover letters, interview answers and to address other topics/concerns. Time is also available after the sessions. The SJS Workshops in Cloverdale may have from one up to eight or more participants.

What is the difference between a three week and a one week Job Search Program?
Our program is action-oriented covering all strategies of a job search. Each element is demonstrated with time built in for practice and for the actual "doing". Our program also has a strong focus on the hidden job market. (Please see answer to question # 8.)

What will help me more: your workshops or your programs?
Please call us so we may be able to determine what may work best for you. If you are job ready but still missing only one or two final components of the job search strategies such as having a good resume or cover letter, then the workshops are for you. We recommend the longer programs to equip you with up-to-date skills for a life time.
return to top
How much does it cost to take part in one of your programs?
There is no cost for these quality, professionally delivered programs as the projects at both Landell sites are funded through the Canada-British Columbia Labour Market Development Agreement.
